Recycling Centre Balcatta Redevelopment

A major redevelopment of Recycling Centre Balcatta (RCB) is in progress to deliver a faster, more efficient, modern and safer experience for customers.

As part of these essential upgrades, major works and periodic closures will affect the general waste drop-off shed, along with changes to other areas of the site. These works are expected to result in reduced access, disruptions, delays and longer wait times at various stages of the project.

Throughout construction, customers are encouraged to plan ahead. You may wish to visit during quieter weekday periods, typically before 11.00am, with the centre now opening earlier at 7.00am on weekdays. Alternative waste and recycling options are also available.

We appreciate your patience while we future-proof this important community facility, with completion expected by the end of 2027, including:

• A new, fully enclosed general waste transfer station with doubled capacity, enhancing efficiency
• Additional weighbridges to separate residential and commercial traffic, improving flow and reducing wait times
• An improved overall user experience including accessibility, modern facilities and landscaping.

General waste drop-off shed

Major works on the heavily used general waste drop-off shed are scheduled between 9 and 27 August and will require temporary closures, changes to operating hours and significant disruption to normal operations.

During this period, commercial tipping will be restricted to over-the-wall access, with no access inside the shed. This arrangement may continue beyond 27 August. Any changes will be communicated on this page.

For general customers, please note the following:

Scheduled shed closures and changes

• Friday 14 August: General waste drop-off shed opens later at 9.00am
• Tuesday 18 August: General waste drop-off shed closed all day
• Monday 24 August: General waste drop-off shed opens later at 9.00am

Additional closures or changes may occur and will be advertised on this page.

Green waste drop-off area

From Monday 17 August, the green waste drop-off area will operate at reduced capacity while upgrade works are undertaken.

Other site changes

To help manage demand, the centre now opens earlier at 7.00am on weekdays, except where changes to operating hours are listed above.

The Recycling Shop and most of the free recyclables area (before the weighbridge) continue to open at 7.30am, except for cardboard and metal drop-offs, which are available from 7.00am.

Fridges and air conditioners can also be dropped in the recyclables area without needing to go through the weighbridge, which may help reduce delays.

Alternative waste and recycling options 

City of Stirling residents have access to a range of waste and recycling services.

You may wish to consider the City’s on-demand waste collections, which include a free annual skip bin or lounge suite collection for residents, along with free mattress, white goods and e-waste collections.

You can also:

• Check upcoming bulk green waste verge collections in your area
• Make the most of residential waste collections
• Use the City’s recycling stations (mostly at libraries) for batteries, mobile phones, fluorescent lights or globes and ink cartridges.

Please note that the City of Stirling tip passes are not accepted at these facilities.

Several major charities and recycling services across Perth also offer free home collections for donations such as furniture and white goods.
