The City of Stirling celebrates another year of volunteer contributions
The City of Stirling celebrated the contributions of its volunteers with the annual Mayoral Christmas Volunteer Appreciation Event.
The City of Stirling celebrated the contributions of its volunteers on Thursday 5 December with the annual Mayoral Christmas Volunteer Appreciation Event, held at the Administration Centre Reception Hall. To mark International Volunteer Day, the event recognised the efforts of the City’s more than 350 active volunteers who have collectively contributed nearly 48,000 hours of service in 2024.
The event also recognised Geetha Kumar as the 2024 Volunteer of the Year. Geetha began volunteering with the City in 2023 where she has demonstrated remarkable resilience in overcoming challenges, consistently demonstrating a positive, solution-focused approach. Her dedication has made her an invaluable asset to the community, earning her this well-deserved accolade.
The City’s volunteers play a vital role in delivering services across a range of areas, including transport, libraries, environmental programs and digital mentoring. With 70 per cent of volunteers residing in Stirling, their contributions reflect a strong sense of community.
Supporting this work is the City’s Volunteer Services team, which has had an impactful year in 2024. Safety continues to be a major focus to ensure volunteers work in a safe and supportive environment. The team also organised 12 learning sessions for volunteers and implemented a new volunteer database to improve coordination and support for active volunteers. These achievements were recognised at the annual Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards, where the team won the Leadership Excellence Award for their commitment to safety and innovation.
The City offers a range of rewarding volunteering opportunities for those looking to make a difference in the community. To find out more about how you can get involved, visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/volunteering.
