Stirling to trial priority parking for seniors

13 May 2026

Seniors will have access to priority parking bays at City of Stirling libraries and leisure centres during a 12-week trial launching on Monday.

Parking has emerged as an area for improvement among seniors through the City’s 2025 Annual Resident Satisfaction Survey, other community engagement initiatives and customer feedback.

Specific feedback has highlighted the challenges for seniors who are not eligible for ACROD parking but struggle with walking longer distances when carparks are near capacity.

Running from Monday 18 May to Sunday 9 August 2026, the trial responds to those concerns by providing priority parking bays near the entrances to City facilities to reduce walking distances and potential safety risks.

The trial will rely on the community to respect the purpose of the signed priority bays and leave them free for people who self-identify as seniors.

The bays will also be available to City volunteers when they are transporting seniors through the Stirling Senior Services program.

The community is invited to complete a short survey to share their insights on the trial and help the City better understand local parking challenges.

These insights could be considered as part of the planned review of the City’s Parking Local Law later this year.

“Our older residents have told us about their struggles with parking – and we want them to know that we are listening,” Deputy Mayor Karlo Perkov said.

“We put a lot of effort into supporting seniors to stay active and connected in the community through a whole range of age-friendly programs and services.

“Priority parking bays may be another simple way that we can improve access and inclusion for seniors, whether they are attending a workshop at one of our libraries or a group fitness class at one of our leisure centres.

“This is only a trial for now, but it will give us valuable information for future conversations about parking across our City.”
