Spotlight on Stirling: Cosmic Studios Picture Framing & Mirrors

On Scarborough Beach Road, Cosmic Studios Picture Framing & Mirrors has quietly become one of the City of Stirling’s longest-standing small businesses.
Operating from the same premises for over 38 years, the family-run studio has built a reputation for craftsmanship, creativity and community connection.
The business began in the 1980s when Vince Annert, recently returned from overseas, started selling prints at the Subiaco Markets. Demand for framing followed quickly. When a lease became available at 164 Scarborough Beach Road, Vince saw an opportunity to bring his growing business closer to home. He enlisted his brother and mother, and together they laid the foundations for what would become a local institution.
Although the studio remains focused on custom framing and mirrors, it has evolved over time to include homewares, furniture and a curated selection of original and limited-edition prints. Photographic images of old Scarborough and iconic Perth landmarks line the walls, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the city’s past.
“We see so much diverse artworks come in and leave transformed in their new environment,” says Roslyn Annert, Vince’s wife and now manager of the business. “There are so many options and profiles to choose from, and we listen to people’s needs and help in navigating the best solution and outcome for the individual artwork.”
The studio’s services include bespoke framing, box framing and memorabilia preservation, with projects ranging from puzzles and cross stitches to original artworks and posters. Every frame is made on site, and three of the Annerts’ five children have learned the skill - a tradition that continues to inspire the family.
“Picture Framing is a very niche industry,” Roslyn explains. “All the framing is made on the premises. A learning journey which continues to excite and ignite the joy of creating.”
Like many small businesses, Cosmic Studios has seen its industry shift. “Unfortunately, there are many Picture Framers closing their doors due to a myriad of reasons,” Roslyn says. “However, I believe that there will always be a need for the industry to thrive and survive.”
The studio’s longevity is a testament to its adaptability and customer loyalty. “Over the years we have seen first, second and third generations frequent our premises which is super inspiring,” Roslyn says. “We are always grateful for new and returning customers.”
With decades of experience, the team continues to approach each project with care and creativity. “The work is diverse and at times there are challenges to brainstorm solutions where the end results never disappoint,” Roslyn says. “I think this is key to the success of any business; remain passionate, focused, determined and be willing to change where change is needed.”
Cosmic Studios is proud to be part of one of Stirling’s few remaining strip shopping areas, and its contribution to the local business landscape is deeply felt. “Small business is so important in servicing the community. Particularly where we are situated,” Roslyn says. “I love that we have had an input into transforming people’s walls in their home, office, business or corporation.”
