Paw-some Day Out 2026 postponed due to canine parvovirus

20 October 2026

The City of Stirling has made the difficult decision to postpone Paw-some Day Out because of the detection of canine parvovirus (parvo) in the community.

Paw-some Day Out 2026 was scheduled to take place from 8.00am to 12.00pm this Sunday 25 October at Grindleford Reserve in Balcatta.

One of the City’s most anticipated community events of the year, it attracts hundreds of pet lovers and their four-legged friends for a day of fun and responsible pet ownership.

This year’s event was set to feature free vet checks from Karrinyup Small Animal Hospital and free one-year dog registrations for eligible owners, along with an expanded focus on accessibility.

Unfortunately, the detection of parvo in the local area has prompted the City to postpone the event.

This is a disappointing development for the City, the stallholders and service providers involved in the event and the wider community.

However, the highly contagious and potentially deadly nature of parvo means postponement is the only responsible course of action.

The City is yet to confirm a new date for Paw-some Day Out but will likely seek to reschedule it for early 2027.

Parvo is a particularly dangerous virus for unvaccinated dogs and puppies.

Pet owners are advised to be on the lookout for symptoms including lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration.

The best protection against parvo is vaccination.

If you have concerns about your dog's health, please contact your veterinarian.
