Yarning circle the centrepiece of new forecourt

28 November 2025

The City is proud to unveil its new yarning circle at the Administration Centre forecourt, as a prominent symbol of the City’s commitment to reconciliation and pride in its Wadjak Nyoongar heritage.

The new public artwork, titled Koora, Yeyi, Boordawan Bidi (Past, Present, Future Path), was crafted from polished concrete with aggregate inset, staining and sandblasting detail, also featuring LED and fibre optic lighting that brings the work to life after dark.

Featuring works by celebrated Nyoongar artists Meeyakba Shane Pickett (1957 – 2010), Peter Farmer Snr and Kylie Graham, the yarning circle was developed in collaboration with Jahne Rees of Scape-ism.

Guided by the voices of Aboriginal community members, the project evolved to reflect the natural elements, cultural themes and symbolic meanings that hold deep significance for Nyoongar people.

A place to gather, listen and walk together on the path of past, present and future, the yarning circle was delivered over several years as part of the City’s last Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with contributions from both the Ngalang Maya Wangkiny and RAP working groups.

The yarning circle stands as a living expression of the City’s commitment to truth-telling, cultural learning and the celebration of Aboriginal identity in public spaces.

Visit the City of Stirling’s Administration Centre forecourt to see the yarning circle for yourself.
