Family adventures on Perth’s Sunset Coast

Spanning more than fifty kilometres of world-class coastline, Perth’s Sunset Coast is a region defined by its endless ocean views, pristine beaches, and laid-back lifestyle.
Home to iconic coastal gems like Scarborough, Trigg, North Beach, and Watermans Bay, this slice of paradise is perfect for family adventures. From beachside playgrounds and nature trails to fish and chips with a view, it’s packed with ways to explore, recharge, and make memories together.
Start with a stroll
Begin your day with a barefoot wander along one of the Sunset Coast’s beautiful beaches. Let the kids splash in the shallows, hunt for shells, and soak up the salty breeze. It’s the ultimate summer slow start.
If two wheels are more your kids’ vibe, grab the bikes and cruise along the West Coast Drive coastal path for a breezy family bike ride with ocean views.
Mum (or Dad!) can swing by Little Bay, for a takeaway coffee or strawberry matcha while the crew takes a breather.
Then head to Mettams Pool, a calm, reef-protected spot ideal for little snorkellers and curious explorers. With colourful fish just metres from shore, it’s a summer must-do.
Mid-morning bites
After a morning of beachcombing and exploring, treat the family to a well-earned snack. From flaky pastries, fresh sourdough, or a round of babycinos, the Sunset Coast’s is dotted with cafés and bakeries that hit the spot. Check out all the City's guide to the best pastry and sweet treat stops here.
Adventure and play
There’s no shortage of places to burn off energy. Head to Trigg Bushland Reserve or Star Swamp, where the Play Trails mix nature with adventure and a dash of (fun) education. Kids can follow interactive stories, spot wildlife, and learn as they go, perfect for burning off energy while discovering something new.
For surf-loving kids, Trigg and Scarborough offer great waves. Want to score some serious parent points? Sign the kids up for a surf lesson with Go Surf or Scarborough Surf School … they’ll be riding waves and bragging about it in no time.
