Composting and growing for kids

Lean how to compost in a bottle.
15 September 2025

Join Peg, from Lessen with Peg, for a fun and educational composting workshop designed for kids and families.

Packed with practical information and hands-on activities, families will learn about the importance of composting and how to reduce waste by using kitchen scraps and garden clippings.

This free event will be hosted at Stirling Leisure – Inglewood Community Centre on Wednesday 8 October from 10.00am to 11.00am.

Activities

Compost in a bottle – bring a clear plastic bottle (with the top cut off) and fill it with scraps, grass clippings, coffee grounds and leaves. Watch the composting process at home as it breaks down into nutrient-rich soil.

Planting activity – fill an old tin with compost and worm castings then plant a vegetable or herbs. Take your planted tin home and enjoy the watch-and-wait experience along with your compost in a bottle.

What to bring:

  • A clear plastic bottle (with the top cut off)
  • Enthusiasm to learn and have fun!

This workshop is perfect for kids and families who want to learn about sustainability and gardening in a hands-on, engaging way.
