FAQs
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has received a proposal to clear approximately 13.55ha of land at Lot 802, No. 179 Erindale Road Hamersley, and part Lot 803, No. 601 Wanneroo Road Hamersley. The public consultation period for this proposal is now open and runs from 3 December 2025 until 17 December 2025.
The subject site is outlined in the image below. The purpose of the proposal to clear this land is for future residential development.

The site currently contains native bushland including federally listed Threatened Ecological Communities (TECs) being Banksia Woodland and Tuart Woodland. Broadcast transmission infrastructure also currently exists on the central and eastern part of the site.
The site is currently classified as a ‘Public Use (Commonwealth) Reserve’ under the City of Stirling’s (City) Local Planning Scheme No. 3 (LPS3). The site is currently zoned ‘Urban’ under the State’s Metropolitan Region Scheme. The draft Local Planning Scheme No. 4, which is intended to replace LPS3, is proposing to reserve the land for ‘Government Services’.
The current application is to clear the site only and does not propose any development. The proposed clearing of the vegetation is to facilitate the construction of residential housing, associated civil infrastructure and the establishment of a conservation area. The EPA is the determining authority for this application and not the City. The City will however consider this application to clear the site and forward a submission to the EPA for further consideration.
In order for the site to be developed for residential housing, a rezoning application will be required to be lodged with the City.
Comments on the current proposal can be made to the EPA directly.
The public consultation period commences on 3 December and closes on 17 December.
Enquiries can be directed to the EPA on (08) 6364 7000.
Following the closure of the public consultation period, the EPA will assess all submissions, prepare a report, and provide a recommendation to the Minister for Environment for consideration. Once with the Minister, the report will be published, and a 3-week appeal period will be held before the Minister’s final determination is made.
