Scarborough your way

25 July 2025

Scarborough’s got that rewarding coastal vibe sorted, even on the cooler days. Heated ocean pools, good coffee, scenic walks, and sunset drinks. It’s the kind of place where you can do your day, your way.

Whether you’re chasing waves, hanging with the kids, or just soaking up the salty air, this beachside spot is all about doing more of what makes you feel like you.

Here’s how to spend a crisp day in Scarborough:

Start strong

Kick off with a sunrise swim at Stirling Leisure - Scarborough Beach. It’s heated, it’s got ocean views, and it’s a local fav for a reason. If you’re feeling bold, book a surf lesson with Scarborough’s Surf School catering to all levels, so even total beginners can give it a crack.

Fuel up with local favourites

Post-swim, grab a bite at Livid Skate Café, a laneway gem serving up toasties, bagels and excellent coffee with a side of skate culture and art.

Prefer something breezy and beachside? Little Wave blends surf vibes with Euro flair, serving great coffee all day. If you are on the move, grab a flaky pastry or sourdough loaf from Knead Bread and Coffee, perfect for a grab-and-go moment.

Play, wander and discover

Scarborough’s packed with spots to explore, especially if you’ve got kids in tow. The Whale Playground is a creative coastal space with plenty to climb, slide and explore. Nearby, the Snake Pit skate park, basketball half-court, and climbing wall offer plenty of action for older kids and teens.

For something different, hit up The Lookout Bar, Bowling and Bites for ten-pin bowling, gourmet bites and ocean views.

Or, wander the Scarborough Public Art Trail and check out murals and installations that show off the suburb’s coastal spirit.

Lunch, your way

Scarborough’s lunch game is strong. La Capannina dishes up fresh pasta and seafood in a breezy, oceanside setting. For something hearty, Galway Hooker serves Irish pub fare in a cosy setting (the Sunday Roast Dinner is a must).

Two Slices is a local favourite for gourmet focaccia sandwiches, while Ronnie’s Slices nails the pizza game, serving deliciousness by the slice. For something flaky, French and worthy of an Instagram story check out Harvest Boulangerie for their artisan pastries and buttery baked goods.

Stretch your legs

Walk off lunch with a coastal stroll or head inland to explore Trigg Bushland or the Star Swamp Heritage Trail. Families can use the Play Trail app to turn nature walks into interactive adventures, making it a fun and educational outing for little ones.

Retail break

Need a change of pace? Jump on the 990 bus for a quick ride to Karrinyup Shopping Centre. With fashion, food, and entertainment all under one roof, it’s ideal for a relaxed arvo indoors. Browse boutiques and flagship stores, catch a movie at HOYTS or challenge yourself at Hijinx Hotel.

Sip and settle in

As the day winds down, grab a drink at SKØL, a Scandi-style wine bar with minimalist chic and a killer drinks list. Or head to Bodega for a warming glass of red, and a laid-back vibe.

Evening vibes

When the sun dips, Scarborough comes alive. El Grotto party with tacos, tequila, and live music. Want to mix-it up? Sandbar serves casual bites, cocktails (including the award winning Matcha Made in Heaven) and beach views - perfect for sipping in an iconic Western Australia sunset.

Scarborough Beach Bar is great for cocktails with ocean breeze, and Indie Bar keeps things local with a packed live-music calendar and a chilled crowd.

On Saturdays through to October, the Scarborough Sunset Markets – Winter Edition light up the foreshore with mulled wine, toasted marshmallows and street food. It’s a sure-fire way to spend an evening in Scarborough.

Or keep it classic with fish and chips from Peter’s by the Sea and settle in on Sunset Hill to watch the sun melt into the horizon. Simple, salty and unforgettable.

Stay the night

Make a weekend of it. Seashells Scarborough offers beachfront apartments with ocean views or check into Ramada VetroBlu, a modern apartment hotel just steps from the beach, great for couples, families or solo travellers looking to unwind.

Scarborough’s got the goods. Whether you’re surfing, strolling, sipping or snacking, it’s all about doing more of what makes you feel like you. Explore more ways to “Do More You” at stirling.wa.gov.au/discoverstirling
