Cosy corners and comfort food: A winter foodie trail

01 July 2025

Perth winters might be mild, but they still bring on serious comfort food cravings.

From steamy bowls of soup, hearty stews satisfying roast dinners, and indulgent hot chocolates, the City of Stirling has plenty of cosy spots to warm you up. Here’s a winter foodie trail to help you make the most of the chill.

Sips to soothe

Kick off your winter foodie trail at Little Sisto in Innaloo, where turmeric lattes and warming masala chai are just the thing to take the edge off a chilly morning. The relaxed vibe and friendly service make it the perfect place to ease into the day.

Craving something heartier? Head to Folk & Merchant in Doubleview for their Sunrise Porridge, a wholesome bowl of oats simmered in almond milk, spiced with cinnamon, and topped with poached fruit and toasted seeds. It’s comfort in a bowl.

Bold, brothy bliss

At Vietnamese Fusion in Scarborough, you’ll find a rotating selection of brothy, flavour-packed soups made with fresh ingredients and traditional Vietnamese spices, perfect for a winter lunch.

For something rich and rustic, Ma Mooney’s Café in Osborne Park serves up Irish classics like beef stew, soup of the day, and coddle - a Dublin favourite made with sausages, bacon, potatoes, and onions slow-cooked in a savoury broth.

If it’s the weekend, don’t miss Little Magic Momo, also in Osborne Park. Their thukpa (a spicy Tibetan noodle soup) and Momo soup (filled with juicy dumplings) are deeply warming and full of flavour.

Crumbs and comfort

Pop into Crumbs in the Wall, a hidden gem in Osborne Park, for their Hot Choccy Croissant - a cube-shaped pastry filled with molten chocolate, topped with whipped cream and dark chocolate flakes. It’s rich, indulgent, and guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Or, if you’re in Inglewood, swing by Wild Bakery on Beaufort Street. Known for their artisan breads and pastries, their sausage rolls are a standout. Made with quality ingredients and baked fresh daily, it’s the perfect savoury snack to warm you up on a winter afternoon.

Hearty plates

As the sun dips, it’s time for something hearty. Odin Tavern in Balcatta is a top pick for a traditional Sunday Roast, serving up tender meat, crispy potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and rich gravy in a warm, welcoming setting. Down by the coast, Galway Hooker in Scarborough brings Irish charm to your evening with their Sunday Roast Night, where you can enjoy a classic roast dinner paired with a pint in a lively pub atmosphere that’s perfect for winding down.

Chakra in Inglewood serves up a Goat Curry that’s slow-cooked until tender and infused with warming spices. It’s the kind of dish that fills the air with rich aromas and leaves you feeling toasted from the inside out. For a midweek indulgence, swing by Bar Rogue in Highgate. Mondays feature a rotating pasta and wine combo, while Wednesdays serve up prime WA steak with chips, salad, and a glass of full-bodied red.

Winter nights and market lights

Wrap up your foodie adventure at the Scarborough Sunset Markets – Winter Edition. Held every Saturday afternoon from 10 May to 25 October 2025, the markets are the perfect way to wind down. Toast marshmallows over open flames, sip on mulled wine, and wander through stalls serving up seasonal street food under twinkling lights. It’s the perfect end to a perfect winter day.
