Carine Community Parkland Upgrade
The City of Stirling would like to hear your thoughts about the Okely Rd playground at Carine Regional Open Space. The City places a high value on play opportunities for children and is committed to providing a range of quality, well-maintained play equipment for children to enjoy.
The existing Okely Rd playground is due for renewal and an upgrade to a community parkland, similar in scale to the one at Charles Riley Reserve is proposed. The upgrade will consider the following elements:
- A new playground
- Basketball shooting area improvements
- New/improvements to the picnic facilities
- Investigation of pedestrian access (including accessibility) throughout the area
The City believes that playgrounds should cater to the needs of its local community and would like to understand how the current playground area is being utilised.
Comments received will be collated, sorted and analysed, with any personally identifying information removed. The resulting consultation report will be made available to residents and will help to inform the design process for the community parkland upgrade.
The community parkland concept design is anticipated to be presented for community consultation later in 2023 or early 2024.
Why is the playground being replaced?
The main combination structure in the playground is 24 years old and at the end of its asset life. To bring the area up to the current standard provided by the City, it is proposed to redesign the playground and support infrastructure.
Will the toilet be part of the upgrade?
The upgrade does not extend to the public toilet facilities. The toilet was installed in 2014 and is considered an appropriate size for the adjacent community parkland.
