New mural shares wonder and wildlife of Lake Gwelup
Local artist David Ledger has brought new life to Lake Gwelup with an art deco-inspired mural showcasing the area’s native flora and fauna.
David developed the mural alongside the Friends of Lake Gwelup, drawing on their knowledge to choose which species to feature in the artwork.
The collaboration deepened the artwork’s connection to place and community, transforming an everyday space such as the walls of an ablutions block into something truly special.
His piece is a celebration of the natural beauty and biodiversity of the area and an ode to the Friends of Lake Gwelup community group.
It invites others to share in their appreciation of Lake Gwelup Reserve and connect with the natural environment around them.
“It has been especially rewarding to create this artwork because Lake Gwelup is our local park, a place our family and so many others enjoy throughout the year,” David said.
“Having the opportunity to contribute something lasting to a place that means so much to our community has been a real privilege.”
Funded through the Locally-led and Creative Communities stream of the City’s Community Grants Program, the mural is an example of what’s possible when community and creativity come together.
