Help shape the Reid Highway and Erindale Road grade separation

05 May 2026

Main Roads WA is inviting the local community and businesses to share feedback to help shape the development of the Reid Highway and Erindale Road grade separation.

The Reid Highway and Erindale Road intersection is the last remaining at-grade intersection – an intersection with no vertical separation – between Mitchell Freeway and Tonkin Highway.

It plays a vital role in the broader road network, facilitating access to residential suburbs such as Hamersley and Warwick, as well as the Balcatta light industrial area.

Planning has started to transform the Reid Highway and Erindale Road intersection into a grade-separated interchange to improve safety and traffic flows at this intersection. A preliminary concept has been developed as part of the project’s early planning and development.

Main Roads WA is conducting extensive development works to allow for road construction to start in 2028, subject to statutory approvals.

These include:

  • Early investigations, such as flora and fauna surveys, traffic surveys, noise assessment, contamination preliminary site investigation, air quality assessment, dieback surveys and heritage surveys
  • Stakeholder consultation to identify various issues, constraints and operational considerations which will inform the development of the project and its interaction with the surrounding area
  • Geotechnical investigations including groundwater level monitoring (planned to start before mid-2026).
