Groundswell Festival returns to Scarborough Beach with Back to its Roots on Saturday 10 October and Sunday 11 October 2026.

The much-loved action sports weekend celebrates the surf, skate and BMX culture that is part of Scarborough Beach's identity.

Groundswell is family-friendly and free for spectators, who can experience world-class competition – both on the beach and in the iconic Scarborough Beach Skate Park Bowl. The event program features the 34th Surf Boardroom Surf League presented by Rip Curl, the Groundswell Classic, BMX Bowl Battle and The Grind Skateboard Competition.

The Surf Boardroom Surf League will bring together WA's leading board riders clubs to compete for more than $5,000 in prizes, while the Groundswell Classic provides opportunities for surfers of all ages and skill levels to get involved. Surfing WA will once again deliver the surf program, providing professional judging, water safety and event management.

The BMX Bowl Battle returns to one of Australia's most recognised skate bowls, with riders battling it out in a thrilling knockout format that showcases impressive airs, technical tricks and elite-level riding.

Skateboarders will also take centre stage in The Grind, a competition that celebrates every generation of the sport, from young first-time competitors to seasoned veterans.

Whether you're a competitor, action sports fan or simply looking for a great day out, Groundswell promises two days of surfing, skateboarding, BMX and community spirit at one of Western Australia's most iconic coastal destinations.

Groundswell is delivered through a partnership between the City of Stirling, Scarborough Beach Association and Freestyle Now.
