Stage 3 of Dianella BMX journey delivered

20 December 2023

The third and final stage of the Dianella BMX and mountain bike facility has now been delivered in time for the summer school holidays.

Adding to the pump track and skills trail constructed in 2021, the new jump lines provide a more diverse experience for beginner, intermediate and advanced local riders.

Mayor Mark Irwin said demand for bike riding facilities continued across the City, particularly for urban mountain biking.

“We are incredibly pleased to finish the year with the delivery of this important facility, which has been developed in consultation with the community since 2018,” he said.

“We know that more than 50,000 young people live in the City and more than 60 per cent are involved in some sort of BMX or skate activity. Completing the new jump lines for a range of rider skill levels now provides a more diverse experience for local riders, which I am sure they will continue to enjoy over the summer.

“We look forward to seeing the facilities at Dianella being used to their fullest by future Olympians and recreational users alike.”

In September 2013, Council endorsed the City’s Skate and BMX Facility Strategy to guide the provision of skate and BMX facilities. Dianella Regional Open Space was recommended then as a location for a ‘satellite-level facility’ offering a dirt BMX experience.

AusCycling’s 2023 Facilities Guide reports health benefits of $1.58 for every kilometre cycled, and for every $1 invested in cycling infrastructure, around $5 is returned as health benefits.
