The City of Stirling is committed to building the future our community deserves. There is so much to love about our City – from our close proximity to the Perth CBD, vibrant cultural and entertainment precincts and pristine coastline, to our natural areas and enviable lifestyle. Stirling is truly a place of opportunity.
To ensure we’re strategic and intentional about our shared future, the City undertook a major review of our Strategic Community Plan (Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032). This review was guided by three phases of community engagement.
Phase one focused on listening to our community. Through surveys and pop-up events, more than 1,600 people shared their thoughts on what matters most, what would make Stirling an even better place to live, and where Council should focus its efforts to help shape the future our community deserves.
Phase two built on these insights by exploring the feedback in greater depth. Through community workshops, participants helped review our current plan, refine and define our 47 focus areas and identify any gaps and future opportunities.
Phase three brought together everything we’ve learned so far to shape the revised Strategic Community Plan, with the draft Sustainable Stirling 2026–2036 open for community review from 5 May to 29 May 2026. Through feedback and informal drop-in sessions, residents played an important role in testing the draft plan to ensure it reflects where we are now, where we want to be over the next 10 years, and that it truly represents everyone in our community.
Following this consultation, Sustainable Stirling 2026–2036, along with a report outlining community submissions, is expected to be presented to the Council meeting on Tuesday 7 July 2026.

11 clubs across the City hosted a Club Convo, with a total of 89 participants sharing what Council should focus on over the coming decade.
Step 1: Ask these three questions at your next meeting
- What would make our community an even better place to live, work, or belong in the future?
- What do we need to focus on over the coming decade to unlock the future you see?
- What's one piece of advice you have to guide the development of the City's Strategic Community Plan?
Step 2: Capture your club's responses
Step 3: Share your feedback via the Club Convos Submission Form
Explore your neighbourhood through nature’s lens!
The Nature Stories Schools Competition invited students to explore how our everyday actions shape the future of trees, wildlife and water.
Through creative stories or illustrations, primary and secondary classes stepped into the shoes (or wings) of Quincy the Quenda, Taylor the Tuart Tree, Buzzby the Bee, Wyatt the Water Drop or created a nature persona of their own!
Winning classes will score an unforgettable nature experience for their school.
To view the 250 Nature Story entries, join us on Monday 17 November, from 4.00pm to 5.00pm at the City's Reception Hall (Administration Centre 25 Cedric Street, Stirling) where the winner of the competition will be announced.
As part of Future Stirling, join us in honouring the rich traditions of the Nyoongar people through a series of vibrant community events celebrating the Six Seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba, and Kambarang. Each gathering will offer a unique opportunity to connect with country and experience the cultural knowledge that has guided sustainable living on this land for tens of thousands of years. Let’s come together to honour each season, reflect on the past, and build a future grounded in cultural respect and connection.
Phase two: define our focus
This phase explores survey responses and community feedback through targeted conversations and workshops in November to define our focus. Together, we’ll explore what we heard during focus phase one to shape a shared long-term vision that will guide the final stage and development of the City of Stirling’s Strategic Community Plan.
Hosted throughout November, a series of targeted workshops built on insights from the Future Insights Survey to deepen our understanding of what matters most to our community.
We extended the invitation to all community members to help ensure our direction aligns with aspirations and priorities.
Each workshop spotlighted the key themes from the Strategic Community Plan to help refine the outcomes, objectives, and strategies to make our community an even better place to live, work or belong in the future:
- Our Community
- Our Economy
- Our Built Environment
- Our Natural Environment
- Our Leadership.

Phase three: create our plan
The draft Sustainable Stirling 2026–2036 was open for community review from 5 May to 29 May 2026. Shaped by the perspectives and aspirations you’ve shared over the past year, the draft plan sets out the long-term vision and priorities that will guide how the City plans, delivers services and makes decisions over the next decade.
The draft Strategic Community Plan is available to view under 'Consultation documents' above and feedback was sought from the community from 5 May to 29 May 2026. The consultation presented an opportunity to:
- See how community perspectives shaped the plan
- Understand the proposed priorities for the next 10 years
- Share your thoughts on the draft Strategic Community Plan.
To help test the draft plan, the City hosted a series of Future Forums - informal drop-in sessions where residents could learn more, ask questions and share perspectives.
Following this consultation, Sustainable Stirling 2026–2036, along with a report outlining community submissions, is expected to be presented to the Council meeting on Tuesday 7 July 2026.
FAQs
The Strategic Community Plan (Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032) sets out an ambitious and achievable vision for the development of the City over the next 10 years and beyond. This Plan:
- Establishes the City’s vision for the Local Government’s future, including aspirations and service expectations
- Elaborates on how to achieve the City’s vision by clearly defining key result areas, objectives and strategies, along with measures of progress
- Describes the City’s commitments

Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032:

- Describes the 10-year vision for the future and the City’s mission, values and commitment to sustainable integrated planning, measurement and reporting
- Identifies some of the key State and Federal plans and policies that will shape the City’s future.
The Strategic Community Plan is considered a 'live' document, subject to a desktop review every two years and a full review every four years.
Community engagement is recognised as a critical component in the development of a Strategic Community Plan. According to the Department of Local Government: ‘The community engagement strategy adopted by a local government will aim to capture a community’s vision, aspirations, and service expectations for inclusion in the Strategic Community Plan.’
Engagement helps identify long-term goals and priorities, ensuring that the plan is developed or modified through meaningful community engagement with the community.
Future Stirling presented an opportunity to get involved in meaningful, two-way conversations about what you want Council to focus on over the coming decade.
Following this consultation, Sustainable Stirling 2026–2036, along with a report outlining community submissions, is expected to be presented to the Council meeting on Tuesday 7 July 2026.
