Draft Local Planning Policy 6.4 - Child Care Premises
On 1 December 2020, Council considered the outcomes of the Local Planning Policy 6.4 – Child Day Care Centres review, and the recommended amendments to the Policy. At that meeting Council resolved to advertise the amendments for public comment. We are now carrying out public consultation to seek the public’s comments.

Main changes to the policy
- An updated set of objectives to clearly identify what the Policy should achieve, and to align the Policy with the City’s Local Planning Strategy
- Promoting Child Care Premises around activity centres and corridors
- Updated development controls for all Child Care Premises developments.

What does this Policy do?
This Policy applies to all Child Care Premises developments within the City, and sets out provisions to provide guidance to developers on Child Care Premises developments within the City.
Why was a review the Policy undertaken?
The review of the Policy was undertaken as the Policy has not been reviewed since 2010. In order to ensure that local planning policies remain up to date, they should be reviewed periodically.
What did the Policy review find?
The review found that the form of Child Care Premises developments have evolved over time, resulting in these developments getting larger and more commercially-orientated.
What are the main changes to the Policy?
Some of the key changes to the Policy include:
