Jackadder Lake construction begins

21 April 2023

Construction is underway on Stage 1 of the Jackadder Lake Reserve Landscape Plan, which balances the environmental needs of the lake with the recreational needs of the community.

Stage 1 works include replacement of the playground equipment, shade sail replacement, new picnic shelters and furniture, upgrades to the paths near the playground and general landscape works.

Works on the reserve’s paths started this week, and once complete will move to the playground area on 1 May, with anticipated completion in early July. The playground will be closed during this time and there will be minor impacts to pedestrian access.

Community consultation in 2021 and 2022, resulted in more than 550 responses and 1,600 comments, which have shaped the following upgrades to the reserve:

  • Renewal of the playground with equipment that caters for the very young to the pre-teen demographics
  • Renewal of exercise equipment, with more options for exercise activities through a mix of static and weight-bearing equipment
  • Revitalisation of the main picnic shelter including the creation of a basic kitchen facility
  • Additional shelters, picnic facilities and park furniture
  • Widening of the southern path
  • Realignment of the main circulation path away from the playground to reduce congestion and conflict between those using the main pedestrian path and those using the playground area
  • Crossing points on Birchwood Ave
  • Creation of turtle nesting and wildlife refuge areas
  • Better informational signage.

Stage 1 of the project is partially funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. The City is intending to implement the landscape plan over three financial years (pending future Council budget prioritisation).
