Extraordinary election for Balga Ward vacancy

14 September 2022

Voters in the Balga Ward of the City of Stirling will decide this November who will represent their community on Council to fill the newly created vacancy after a former Councillor’s resignation.

An election must be held to fill the vacancy under the Local Government Act 1995, and the Mayor has fixed the date for a by-election for the Balga Ward to be held on 25 November 2022 and administered by the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC).

Mayor Mark Irwin said Elected Members play a vital leadership role, working together to create and implement the community's vision, strategic direction and values.

“I strongly encourage electors in the Balga Ward to exercise their important democratic rights in choosing their next representative,” he said.

Any eligible elector in the City of Stirling (who is 18 years of age or older and who is not disqualified) can stand as a candidate in the Balga Ward By-Election.

Nominees of a body corporate cannot stand for election.

Nominations open on 12 October 2022 and close at 4.00pm on 19 October 2022.

To vote in the Balga Ward By-Election you must be enrolled, either:

  • as a resident
  • on the City of Stirling Non-Resident Owners and Occupiers Roll.

Residents who wish to enrol or update existing enrolments must complete an enrolment form or enrol online via the Australian Electoral Commission www.aec.gov.au

The rolls close at 5.00pm on 6 October 2022.
