The 2022 Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Convention and Trade Exhibition has concluded this week with City of Stirling leaders recognised across Council, the Executive and staff.
Councillors Karlo Perkov, Suzanne Migdale and Bianca Sandri were presented with Local Government Merit Awards for their distinguished service and commitment, acknowledging their role in delivering for their community.
City of Stirling Chief Executive Officer Stuart Jardine PSM, already recognised as a leader in the sector through his Public Service Medal (PSM) as well as WALGA’s Eminent Service Award, also received a Local Government Distinguished Officer Award.
Stuart Jardine has led the City of Stirling since 2007, having dedicated an outstanding 25 years to metropolitan local governments in WA, plus an additional 21 years to local governments in the United Kingdom.
WALGA recognised that under Stuart’s leadership, the City of Stirling was a contemporary, innovative and leading local government that consistently delivers for our community.
Recently retired Manager Community Safety Laurie Crouch was also honoured with the Local Government Distinguished Officer Award, having served the City of Stirling for 35 years until his retirement in September 2022.
WALGA recognised that along with his long and distinguished career achievements, under Laurie’s leadership, the City of Stirling was the first local government in Australia to run a fully funded and successful in-house community security service for the entire municipality.
Mayor Mark Irwin said the recognitions were an independent and positive evaluation of the quality of leadership from the Elected Members in Council, through the Executive and Managerial teams.
“The City of Stirling continually strives to be a leader our sector here in Western Australia and across the nation, and so I am so pleased to see our Elected Members and officers recognised for their contribution,” he said.
“Councillors Perkov, Migdale and Sandri join a long line of City of Stirling Councillors previously recognised, and Stuart Jardine adds to his long list of recognitions a further award for distinguished service.
“Long serving City officers such as Laurie Crouch and Keith Rickman before him, were leaders in the community safety and waste services sectors respectively, and are but a few examples of the quality of the leadership and capability the City has recruited and developed.”
Acting Manager Development Services Austin Donaghey also presented at the WALGA Conference on the City’s Stirling Fast-Track, an online service to fast-track development assessment – which will be launched later this month.
