25 November 2022

The City of Stirling 2022 Balga By-election has concluded this evening, with the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) announcing the final results of the ballot count.

At the conclusion of the ballot count, the following results were declared:

  • Balga Ward – Candidate Michael Dudek was elected with 1,842 votes (36.7 per cent)

Cr Dudek will serve out the remainder of the current term, due to expire at the 21 October 2023 Local Government Election.

The new Councillor will be sworn in to serve as an Elected Member for the City of Stirling at the next and final Council meeting for 2022, due to be held at 5.30pm on Tuesday 6 December 2022.

Mayor Mark Irwin thanked the Returning Officer Leonie Veitch for the WAEC’s professional and independent management of the by-election on behalf of the City of Stirling, and congratulated Councillor Dudek on his election.

“At the conclusion of each election we celebrate the renewal of our local democracy, and recognise those who put their hand up to serve,” he said.

“Tonight we welcome the election of a new Councillor for the Balga Ward, Michael Dudek, who will join Councillor Andrea Creado in representing the local community in Mirrabooka, Westminster, Balga and Nollamara.

“On behalf of the City I welcome Councillor Dudek, and thank the unsuccessful candidates for their contribution to this process, especially given the unexpected nature of a by-election.

“Each of the seven candidates represented the diversity of the local community, and I am pleased that the people of Balga Ward had such a high quality field of candidates to choose from.”
