$218,000 in additional arts and events grants

17 November 2022

The City of Stirling continues to support community vibrancy and activation with $218,377 in grants awarded to 17 community organisations in the second round of this financial year’s Community Arts and Events Fund (CAEF).

The CAEF enables the City to support a wide range of arts and events throughout the year, providing community groups with access to funding, value-in-kind services and support.

Applicants were required to outline how they would support one or more of the following focus areas, which are aligned with the City’s new Strategic Community Plan objectives:

  • Creating vibrant spaces with a sense of place by enhancing and activating the built and natural environment
  • Activities which attract visitors and contribute to a prosperous, creative and innovative City
  • Encouraging a culturally active and engaged community, which fosters health, wellbeing, social connection and strong community spirit
  • Celebrating the City’s diverse communities and cultures.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the City was committed to creating welcoming places that make people feel included and give them a variety of ways to participate in community life.

“Support for arts and events such as Carols at Scarborough, Summer X Salt Markets, the Brazilian Beach Carnival, King of the Point, Mirrabooka Harmony, Hamersley Carols and the Mount Lawley Christmas Fete, shows Council’s continuing commitment to creating welcoming places that make people feel included in community life,” he said.

“Iconic events such as the Scarborough Sunset Markets, Inglewood Monday Night Markets, Osborne Park Show and Colours of Italy received funding in the initial round, which will help to activate local centres, support our cultural sector and encourage tourism growth.

“In September the City announced $320,242 in arts and events grants to 14 community organisations in the first CAEF round. Combined with round two, this brings the City’s investment to $538,619 for the financial year, which has gone directly to community groups and organisations delivering social outcomes and economic benefits for local businesses and activity centres.”
