The ‘No More Blank Walls’ street art festival

30 March 2022

The ‘No More Blank Walls’ street art festival is coming to Mount Lawley this April, with an aim to beautify the city and bring people together in a celebration of street art culture.

From April 8 - 16, Mount Lawley will be taken over with an epic array of activations including murals, live art, a gallery exhibition, community events, workshops, street art tours, artist talks and after parties.

The festival is brought to you by Blank Walls in partnership with the City of Stirling, who have curated an incredible line-up of artists; the vast majority are local, ranging in styles to add to the creative diversity of the city and further harness Perth’s persona as the up-and-coming street art capital of Australia.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the City was proud to be a major supporter of Perth’s newest street art festival.

“Arts and cultural events and experiences contribute to vibrant, creative and connected communities, so it is the City’s goal to support organisations and communities that aim to enliven their local precincts, such as this one.

“These murals will become cultural assets that will provide long-term benefits to the community and businesses in the area long after the festival by enhancing the sense of place and contributing to economic development. I can’t wait to see Mount Lawley come alive with street art in April.”

The festival is also being supported by an array of sponsors including Graphenstone, an eco-friendly paint company that produce paints that absorb CO2 from the air!

Fiona Parry-Jones at Graphenstone said ‘we are committed to providing ecological paint solutions that contribute to the construction of healthy and sustainable buildings. Our paint products are composed of natural lime minerals and graphene technology to create unique formulas that absorb CO2 and Formaldehyde emissions from the atmosphere.’

All the walls at the festival will be given a coat of the carbon eating paint that will be comparable to planting trees. Pretty epic for paint! On top of this, Graphenstone will plant a tree for every pail of paint used.

Also supporting are Chilly’s, a sustainable water bottle brand on a mission to ditch plastic bottles and give a canvas to artists along the way. Phillip Jacobson, creative and marketing lead at Chilly’s said: “Supporting artists and giving them a canvas to show their work to the world is a big part of what we do, so it’s great to be involved in the NMBW festival which is doing exactly that.”

Long standing Blank Walls’ partner and beer brewing legends Pirate Life will be supporting with a dedicated festival beer to add to the artist series collab where $5 from every case has been pledged towards the festival. On top of that, an after party will be hosted at Pirate Life Perth. Get yourself a ticket here which includes a free beer on entry!

There would be no art without the tools of the trade, so local art store The Butcher Shop in collaboration with MTN will be the exclusive spray paint partners.

Blank Walls are an international street art company founded here in Perth by Jerome Davenport, Will Clark and Alex Harvey. Driven by an obsessive passion for street art culture, the trio couldn’t be prouder to be launching the inaugural festival here in their hometown.

Will Clark: ‘Putting on our own street art festival has been a goal of ours since we started Blank Walls back in 2019. We’re so proud that we’re able to showcase some of the amazingly talented creatives we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside over the years and it’s an honour to do it in our home city of Perth. We’re stoked at the amount of support that’s been provided by the City of Stirling and all of the sponsors who have chipped in to help get the inaugural No More Blank Walls festival off the ground! With everything going on in the world right now, there’s no better time to turn some blank spaces into beautiful places’

Jerome Davenport, lead curator of the festival said: ‘We were keen to curate a line-up that showcases the incredible talent we have on our doorstep in Western Australia. Ensuring there was a diverse selection of mural artists was also important, giving opportunities to up-and-coming talent as well as to more established artists that have not yet been featured within the area.’

Lock the dates in your diaries because this is not going to be one you want to miss.
