City wins eighth gold medal in a row

The City of Stirling has won gold at the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) for our 2020/21 Annual Report for accountability and transparency in strategic performance reporting.

The win is the eighth consecutive year the City’s Annual Report has won a gold award from the ARA, with the City of Stirling also becoming a finalist in the special award category, Communication – Public Sector this year. The awards were introduced in 1950 (then known as the Annual Report Awards) to improve the quality of annual reporting in Australia and raise public awareness of the purposes of organisations and their achievements.

The awards were then expanded to include New Zealand and renamed the Australasian Reporting Awards. They are an independent, not-for-profit organisation run by volunteer professionals from the business, government and not-for-profit sectors, with support from organisations concerned with the quality of business and financial reporting.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the eighth gold medal secured the City’s position as a leader in the sector, holding more gold awards than any other Western Australian local government.

“An organisation’s annual report is the final word on its performance over a financial year, and in the local government context, the final word on whether we achieved what we set out to do during the year,” he said.

“I congratulate the City staff who have successfully delivered on our strategic objectives in the 2020/21 financial year, and look forward to continuing this success in future years.

“Earlier this month the City of Stirling released our new Strategic Community Plan, Sustainable Stirling 2022-2032, which will take us forward with a new focus on environmental sustainability and local areas for the next 10 years.”

Sustainable Stirling 2022-2032 guides the recently adopted Corporate Business Plan 2022-2026. This is funded by the City’s 2022/23 Annual Budget, the benchmark against which the City will assess our performance in the Annual Report for 2022/23.
