Karrinyup Road works to finish soon

01 December 2022

Karrinyup Road will be returning to its normal operations this week, with Main Roads WA confirming works on the new section of high-standard path on the eastern side of Mitchell Freeway — linking Civic Place in Stirling to Reid Highway in Balcatta — have progressed to their next stage.

Construction for this project has primarily been undertaken in the existing freeway reserve and will include local connections as well as a new 80 metre underpass at Karrinyup Road.

From this week the following changes will apply:

  • The four lanes of Karrinyup Road across the Mitchell Freeway have been reinstated overnight
  • The northbound on-ramp will be available for right turns for westbound travellers
  • The southbound off-ramp will remain left turn-only for the next 24 hours, but will allow right turns after a temporary safety barrier is removed
  • The south bound on-ramp remains closed until the second week of December.

Final safety barriers, retaining wall construction and asphalt works will still need to be completed over the next few weeks.

Main Roads WA have expressed their gratitude and thanks residents for their patience during this time. Residents will now experience normal conditions while the works are completed on the shared path, constructed along the Mitchell Freeway.

Once the works are complete the project will enable left and right turning lanes to extend from Karrinyup Road to Cedric Street, reducing congestion at the intersection. Pedestrian crossing facilities through the intersection will also be upgraded to include the installation of two zebra crossings.

With future plans to widen the freeway southbound in this area, noise walls built adjacent to residential areas on the eastern side between Karrinyup Road and Erindale Road will reduce noise experienced by residents living near the freeway.
