The City of Stirling is pleased to announce the opening of entries for the 2021 Art Awards and Exhibition, inviting submissions for original and new work across a range of mediums from Western Australian artists.

The 15th biennial Art Awards and Exhibition will next take place from 29 October to 7 November 2021 with a strong focus on featuring artwork from local artists living and working within the City of Stirling.

The Art Awards and Exhibition will be held at the Civic Centre, Reception Hall, 25 Cedric Street, Stirling and will be open 10.00am - 4.00pm daily.

The awards include a $15,000 prize pool, including;

  • Acquisitive Award $7,500
  • Highly Commended Second Place Award $2,500
  • Highly Commended Third Place Award $1,500
  • New 50th Anniversary ‘Local Visions’ Award $1,000
  • Rotary Club of Karrinyup Local Artist Award $1,000
  • Jacksons Drawing Suppliers Young Artist Award $1,000
  • Westfield Innaloo People’s Choice Award $500.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the biennial art awards were a crucial component of the support for artists and provided an opportunity for our community to engage with art and culture within the City.

“Council has placed a concerted focus on supporting the arts and culture industry throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and we recognise the importance of continued initiatives such as the Art Awards and Exhibition as part of the City’s commitment to building a vibrant and connected community,” he said.

The awards were last held in 2019, which saw Perth artist Damien Goerke win the City’s coveted Acquisitive Award for his drawing/mixed media work, ‘Primary’.

Entries close on Friday 24 September 2021. Shortlisted artists will be notified on Friday 8 October, with awards presented at an invite only opening night.
