The successful candidates – now Councillors – from the 2021 Local Government Election will represent the 40th Council to be sworn in to serve as Elected Members for the City of Stirling, which this year continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The new Council will be sworn in at a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 19 October, where a Deputy Mayor will be elected by a vote of Council.

Mayor Mark Irwin thanked the Returning Officer for the WAEC’s professional and independent management of the election on behalf of the City of Stirling, and congratulated the successful candidates and re-elected Councillors.

“Tonight, we celebrate the renewing of our local democracy, with the community having chosen the representatives in whom they now place trust and confidence to speak and act on their behalf,” he said.

“Thank you to every voter who took the time to consider the candidates and cast their vote for the future of the City of Stirling.

“On behalf of the City I welcome each of the new Councillors, congratulate returning Councillors on their re-election, and thank the unsuccessful candidates for their contribution to the democratic process.

“Our message as a City has been clear and consistent these past months; improving your community starts with local government, and so each person who participated in these elections has made a substantial difference to how our local facilities and services are run and delivered.

“The City of Stirling has a bold vision for our community; to continue to build the infrastructure and projects needed to maintain our standing as Perth’s second CBD, to provide the services and amenities our community expects, and to do so whilst ensuring the voice of the community is heard and respected at every step of the way.

“Our new ward Councillors and re-elected Councillors will play a critical role in providing community oversight and strategic direction to the City staff, who continue to be recognised across the sector as leaders in professional and competent public service.

“As we move out of the election period and into a major review of our 10-year Strategic Community Plan, it is critical to ensure the voice of each resident and ratepayer is heard and respected. In leading this Council, I will strive to do this with concerted effort, impactful service, and integrity."

The City of Stirling will host an Elected Members Expo on Monday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday to induct the new and returning Councillors, which will provide them with:

  • Project and service delivery briefings from Directors
  • Compliance and governance briefings from Governance staff
  • Introduction to the support they will receive from the City to help them deliver in their new role.
