Community Citizen Of The Year Awards Open

01 October 2021

The City of Stirling is proud to continue to deliver the annual Community Citizen of the Year awards in conjunction with Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which are currently open for nominations and close on 31 October 2021.

Each year on Australia Day, the Community Citizen of the Year Awards give local governments around the state the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution and celebrate community engagement of people within the community.

Nomination categories for the awards are:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (over 16 years)
  • Community Citizen of the Year - Youth (under 25 years)
  • Community Citizen of the Year - Senior (65 years or over)
  • Active Citizenship - group or event.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the City of Stirling was committed to participating in the awards program as it encouraged the outstanding achievements of people contributing to their local community.

“Every community has local heroes, and every member of our community knows someone around them that has made Stirling a better place this year,” he said.

“2020 and 2021 have brought levels of adversity unseen in generations, and if there is a silver lining to that in any way, it would be that we know this adversity has brought out the very best in us.

“As a City, we have been pushed to change and reform in order to provide services in new and more efficient ways, and we have been able to do great things in partnership with thousands of local heroes who stepped up to the challenge that COVID-19 has brought.

“You have the opportunity to acknowledge those making outstanding contributions in areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the community.

“Each year, we have this opportunity to acknowledge great service and contribution – to reflect, respect, and celebrate – but more so than ever before, we have faced and continue to face unprecedented adversity that daily is met by local heroes, and they deserve recognition.”
