City employee recognised internationally

01 October 2021

Recognising efforts to strengthen the City’s governance framework in recent years, the Manager Governance Jamie Blanchard has been acknowledged in the 2021 Modern Governance 100 recipients.

Facilitated by governance, risk and compliance company Diligent, the Modern Governance 100 recognises board members, elected officials, executives and peers around the world who have demonstrated leadership in ensuring effective governance practices.

The global recipients are recognised for their efforts in driving their organisations towards greater diversity, sustainable practices, digital transformation and generating sharper insights for company leadership.

“As a recipient of the Risk and Compliance Visionary category, our panel of expert judges have recognised [Mr Blanchard’s] outstanding commitment to lead a strategic risk management program that delivers executive visibility and assurance, effectively demonstrates compliance and increases day-to-day efficiencies,” the submission read.

“On behalf of the category judges, Kristy Grant Hart, Kevin Moylan and Dyke Debrie, I would like to extend my congratulations and applaud him for his exemplary contributions to your organisation.”

Diligent CEO Brian Stafford said between increased regulatory demands, shifting stakeholder priorities and a rapidly changing environmental and social landscape, governance, risk and compliance professionals are being challenged like never before.

“Each of these honourees have demonstrated the highest calibre of purpose-driven leadership by driving transformational change within their organisations in a time of heightened uncertainty. It is my great privilege to be recognising them for their impactful work.”

Mr Blanchard was delighted to be recognised at an international level as a risk and compliance visionary.

“The City of Stirling has strong governance at the foundation of its strategic approach,” he said.

“Through the leadership of Council, the Audit and Risk Committee, the CEO and Executive Team and my Governance team, risk and compliance has become part of everything we do.

“To be recognised internationally through the Modern Governance 100 is an honour. It reflects that, as a member of Team Stirling, I am part of an organisation that sees the benefit of investing in good governance.”

Mr Blanchard also volunteers his time as a member of the National Heart Foundation’s Risk, Audit and Governance Committee.

Mayor Mark Irwin congratulated Mr Blanchard on being recognised internationally.

“It’s fantastic to see City employees being recognised for excellence in any case, but this is especially important to be awarded for excellence in governance,” he said.

“Good governance and transparency is a priority for Council and the City administration I am keen to see the highest standards of integrity maintained at the City of Stirling.”

In 2021, Diligent introduced six categories for nominations to show the breadth of responsibilities, including diversity and sustainability practices, digital transformation, cyber risk management, risk, compliance and audit and a commitment to local communities.
