Applications open for new Kaleidoscope mentees

05 May 2021

The award-winning Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program is set to continue, with applications now open to mentees until Monday 31 May 2021.

Speaking this week ahead of Thursday’s graduation ceremony, Mayor Mark Irwin said the Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program continues to help skilled professionals new to Australia (migrants and refugees) to improve their employment potential by matching them with mentors from their industry or occupation.

“Mentors guide newcomers on a pathway to find employment within their industry. This benefits both the newcomers and employers in Western Australia by sharing new ideas and boosting business development and cultural diversity in both the workplace and the community,” he said.

Key benefits of the program include:

  • Exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking
  • Advice on developing strengths and overcoming weaknesses
  • Guidance on professional development and advancement
  • Increased visibility and recognition within the professional network
  • The opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge.

The program supports newcomers to WA to build professional networks and increase knowledge of both recruitment practices and the state of each profession locally. This ultimately leads to employment opportunities and is supported by the program results.

Across the past five cycles, 78 per cent of mentees surveyed reported being employed in their field within six months.

This compares to entry data showing 87 per cent of our mentees are unemployed or employed in survival jobs, with 13 per cent under employed in an associated industry.

The Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program is implemented under a partnership between the City of Stirling, the City of Canning and Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre, and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services and the Western Australian Government through the Office of Multicultural Interests.

Anyone interested in joining the program as a mentor or mentee can register for an upcoming online info session or visit www.kaleidoscopeinitiative.com.au for more information.

Applications for the KMP 2021 Cycle 2 will close Monday 31 May 2021.
