Scarborough Beach Pool wins new Gold Waterwise Award

01 June 2021

The City of Stirling has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Water, Hon Dave Kelly MLA, that Scarborough Beach Pool was awarded the newest and highest honours at this year’s Waterwise Recognition Event.

The Minister said that in the face of climate change, protecting our state’s precious water supply had never been more important.

“It is something we all have a responsibility to help achieve,” he said.

“In Western Australia, we know the important role that water plays in sustaining thriving communities. We understand it is fundamental to creating healthy, liveable communities and recognise the benefits water brings to fulfilling our social, economic, and environmental needs.

“I’d like to congratulate all those recognised as part of the 2021 Waterwise Recognition Scheme for your commitment to showing real leadership and innovation in driving water efficiency within your business, organisation or community.”

In addition to the normal Waterwise aquatic centre endorsement – which Scarborough Beach Pool has achieved each year – the new Gold Waterwise Aquatic Centre awards were presented for the first time to facilities that demonstrated best practise water management in an aquatic centre.

Scarborough Beach Pool was awarded the gold award earlier this month, along with 12 other facilities from across Western Australia. Stirling Leisure Centres – Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre and Leisurepark Balga were both endorsed as Waterwise Aquatic Centres.

Mayor Mark Irwin said this new and latest award recognised the City’s innovative water efficiency initiatives above and beyond being an endorsed waterwise aquatic centre.

“A strength of Scarborough Beach Pool’s offering is its intuitive online utility metering system that feeds live usage into the facilities building management system,” he said.

The City of Stirling is aiming for all three of its aquatic centres to achieve gold awards in 2022.
