Surge in eBook loans during COVID-19

08 May 2020

Along with the growing interest in eBooks, there has been a 76 per cent increase in the number of movies being borrowed through the Kanopy movie streaming service, which is available to library members online or through the Stirling Libraries app.

The number of eAudio book loans has also risen by close to 25 per cent.

Mayor Mark Irwin said while local libraries were closed for now, there was still a lot of entertaining online library resources available to members.

“It’s an excellent reminder that our libraries offer so much more than just books and there’s also the convenience of being able to access these services around the clock,” Mayor Irwin said.

“When it comes to our younger library visitors, in-library storytime sessions remain on hold but we now have several online sessions available via the City’s Youtube channel to keep them entertained.”

For those members who miss holding a hard-copy book in their hands or borrowing a DVD, these can now be reserved online via Stirling Libraries Click&Collect service. Library staff will then be contact in when the items are available for collection, and all members are social distancing measures are in place when you come to collect your items.

For members who already have library items on loan, these can be accepted at all libraries and via after-hours returns chutes at Osborne and Scarborough libraries.

If you can’t make it to your local library to return items, all borrowing periods have been extended and no fines will be charged during the COVID pandemic.
