Scarborough Beach Road, Green Street Intersection Upgrades

27 May 2020

Main Roads WA recently released their first draft design for upgrades to the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road, Main Street, Green Street and Brady Street.

Funded by the State Government, the project aims to improve safety for all road users, with the design based on traffic data, accident and congestion statistics, engineering design standards and community consultation.

Local MPs the Hon. David Michael MLA and the Hon. John Carey MLA have been advocating for major upgrades to the intersection since the 2017 election.

The City of Stirling, in conjunction with the City of Vincent and the MPs, have been engaging with the local community to provide feedback to Main Roads WA on a new roundabout configuration, signalling upgrades and improved pedestrian crossing facilities.

Consultation by the City of Stirling, which closed on Friday 22 May, revealed 79 per cent of local residents surveyed about the new intersection design either ‘strongly supported’ or ‘somewhat supported’ the plans put forward by Main Roads WA.

Only 14 per cent of the 62 respondents who offered feedback to the City either ‘somewhat’ or ‘strongly opposed’ the design.

The results and comments received will now be provided to the Main Roads WA to inform how they will proceed with the State Government-funded project.
