Moorland Street Bicycle Boulevard set to be completed

30 March 2020

Already making an impression with local cyclists, the award-winning Moorland Street Bicycle Boulevard in Doubleview is set to be completed this year. The City developed the project to provide everyday cyclists with a safer route from Stirling to Scarborough along Moorland Street. To date, the City has delivered two of the three stages, taking the route to the edge of Doubleview at the end of Grand Promenade.

The route offers a low-speed ‘shared road’ environment for riders of all abilities and features modified intersections with safer crossings for cyclists. Since introducing the dedicated cycling route, the measured vehicle speed outside Yuluma Primary School has dropped from 45km/h to 30km/h.

Part of the City’s Integrated Cycling Strategy, the project won the Road Safety Excellence category at the 2019 National Awards for Local Government. Works on the final stage of the route – linking Doubleview with Scarborough – are set to start in May 2020.
