COVID-19 contact tracing registers rolled out

04 December 2020

With WA's controlled interstate border being adjusted to permit travel from Victoria and New South Wales from Tuesday 8 December 2020, the State Government has introduced new mandatory contact tracing measures to help keep the community safe.

From Saturday 5 December 2020, the WA Government will require contact registers to be maintained for all patrons and staff visiting specified venues, facilities and businesses across the state. It has launched the free SafeWA app to streamline this process.

In line with the State Government’s requirements, the City will be rolling out the SafeWA QR codes and manual registration options at the following City venues from Saturday 5 December 2020:

  • City of Stirling Administration Centre
  • Gyms, indoor sporting centres and pools
  • Community centres and facilities
  • All libraries
  • Mount Flora Museum
  • Sporting club buildings (responsibilities of lessees and licensees).

The contact registers will be used to trace people in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak, with all details otherwise remaining confidential and only stored for 28 days.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the community had done an incredible job adjusting to COVID-19 guidelines, and it was vital we all followed the latest State Government requirements.

“While I understand the contact tracing requirement may cause some inconvenience, the health and safety of our customers, employees and the wider community remains our top priority,” Mayor Irwin said.

“A sincere thank you to everyone for your support and cooperation with this next phase of the COVID-19 recovery – remember, we’re all in this together.”

Voluntary contact registration at events delivered by or supported by the City, and at Council and Committee Meetings, will also be available.
