Sunset Veranda kicks off at Scarborough Beach

Iconic Scarborough Beach is set to sizzle this evening as the City of Stirling’s Sunset Veranda 2020 opens its doors as part of this year’s FRINGE WORLD Festival.

Mayor Mark Irwin said he was looking forward to kick starting the festival at tonight’s opening event to mark the beginning of a month of culture, fun and entertainment.

“I can’t wait for Sunset Veranda to get underway and welcome the local community and visitors to enjoy the magic of the festival against the back drop of our incredible west coast sunset,” Mayor Irwin said.

“This year’s program is our most diverse yet, offering something for all the family with a mix of free and ticketed events for all age groups and budgets.”

Sunset Veranda favourite, the Comedy Gala returns for the Australia Day long weekend with a premier line up of comedians bringing their side-splitting humour. Akmal Saleh, Steph Tisdell and hypnotist Matt Hale will also have you laughing out loud with their solo comedy shows.

If it is music you are craving check out The Paul Simon Experience, Tell Mama: The Music of Etta James or The Music of Disney featuring Adam Hall and The Velvet Playboys, along with a variety of other music and cabaret shows in the Big Top.
To celebrate the end of the summer school holidays Summer’s Last Stand, the all ages alcohol free party perfect for teenagers presented by RTRFM 92.1 is back. There is also a DIY Surf and Skate Art session on offer.

Kids are also well catered for with a range of activities from free storytime and Noongar lullabies, to the Leaping Lillies Circus and Monski Mouse Baby Disco.

“Sunset Veranda really is the perfect summer’s night out, so grab your family and friends and head on down to experience FRINGE WORLD by the beach and enjoy a drink and bite to eat in our open-air bar,” Mayor Irwin said.
