Make a Small Change – Buy Local

24 October 2019

Small business is big business in the City of Stirling. Accounting for 98% of the 22,000 businesses actively trading in the City, the small business sector employs an estimated 32,000 staff and contributes more than $6 billion to the WA economy each year.

At a local level, the role of small business is hugely important. It’s the lifeblood of the local community; it brings in and keeps cash in the area, provides employment and helps to create strong, vibrant communities where people want to live.

As a way of getting behind local small businesses, the City of Stirling is supporting the Small Business Development Corporation’s ‘Make a Small Change’ campaign, which runs from October 28 to November 3. The campaign encourages Western Australians to make small changes to their spending habits that can benefit local business and the local economy.

Small businesses are everywhere. Whether it’s trying out a new café, calling a local tradesperson for a maintenance job, or buying a gift from the local markets, there are many ways to make a small change to support local small businesses. A big selling point for buying locally is the feel-good factor of knowing that you’re supporting others who also call the City of Stirling home.
