Mark Irwin has been elected the City of Stirling’s first popularly elected Mayor.

As the results of the Local Government election were delivered last night, Mayor Irwin polled the most votes in every ward, demonstrating wide support across the City.

Mayor Irwin said he was absolutely thrilled and honoured to be elected and thanked his fellow councillors, the community and family for their support.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to be returning as Mayor for the City of Stirling. What makes this extra special is that I am the first popularly elected Mayor and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone across the City who has voiced their support for me to lead the community for another term,” Mayor Irwin said.

“I look forward to continuing the great work we are doing as a united Council to support and foster economic development within the City including major infrastructure projects such as the Stephenson Avenue extension, Westfield Stirling redevelopment and securing light rail for Scarborough Beach Road.

“It certainly is an exciting time for the City and I can’t wait to get on with the job,” Mayor Irwin said.
