On the path to a more vibrant City

More local alfresco dining options and street trading opportunities look likely after the City recently introduced its new Footpath Trading and Activation Permit. The streamlined process makes it quick and easy for businesses to apply for permits to make the most of bordering footpaths and verges.

The City has rolled out the new process in an effort to create more vibrant, interesting, liveable and walkable commercial centres. Under the permit, businesses can apply for a range of uses on footpaths and verges including outdoor dining, product displays as well as beautifications such as planter boxes and umbrellas. Previously, all potential developments or uses of the City’s footpaths/verges required development approval from the City, and were subject to multiple policies and local laws.
