As the year draws to a close, the City of Stirling wishes you a joyous start to 2020 and would like to remind everyone across the community to stay safe during tonight’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the City would be working closely with WA Police to ensure local precincts were family-friendly from the late afternoon through to the early hours of January 1.
“As we ring in the New Year, we want to make sure everyone stays safe and sound so we can enjoy all the fun and good times in store for 2020,” Mayor Irwin said. “To make that happen, please show respect for each other and look after one another during tonight’s celebrations.”
While there are no events or fireworks planned for Scarborough Beach this New Year’s Eve, it remains a hugely popular time of year for the area.
“Scarborough Beach is always a great destination over summer and I’m sure many families will be making the most of its stunning backdrop for a picnic or a get-together, so we’ll be working to ensure it stays a safe environment for all,” Mayor Irwin said.
“Police and City Security staff will be actively patrolling entertainment areas and the beachfront and will be taking a zero tolerance approach to public drinking and anti-social behaviour.”
With Perth sweltering through a hotter than normal December, Mayor Irwin has urged beachgoers to be sun smart and water smart on New Year’s Day.
“We want everyone to enjoy a great day at the beach and just as importantly, to go home safely,” Mayor Irwin said. “Please always swim between the flags, read the safety signs and follow Beach Inspector and Lifeguard instructions.”
“With the extremely hot weather we have had this month, it’s a must to put on sunscreen, wear a hat and stay in the shade where ever possible.”
