The City of Stirling is inviting the community to have a say on its draft Mount Lawley Streetscape study.
City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the aim of the study was to create a streetscape vision and plan that would improve and enhance the qualities of the Mount Lawley Town Centre.
“The City and Council want the same outcome for the Mt Lawley area as its residents and local businesses – a vibrant, active and beautified town centre,” Mayor Irwin said.
“We’re committed to delivering ideas, concepts and plans that will achieve this and meet as many of the needs of the community as possible, but to do that we need the community‘s input.”
The study, which was created in 2018 using information from the City’s 2016 Beaufort Street Strategy and the 2017 Beaufort Street Urban Design Study, has been further developed using feedback from two workshops held with residents and business owners late last year and early this year.
From there, a preferred streetscape design has been developed based on six key elements:
- Greenery in the street reserve
- Active street fronts
- Public art and a walk trail
- Town Centre entry statements
- Enhanced pedestrian amenity
- A piazza/plaza in the Town Centre.
Mayor Mark Irwin said the City would like the community’s feedback on the study and all six elements.
“We would love the local residents and businesses to continue to collaborate with us and get involved in the next steps of the Streetscape Study so we can deliver a final plan that we can all be proud of.”
You can have your say in a number of ways - online via the City’s Your Say Stirling website until September 30, 2019 or at the City’s drop in session or listening post happening this week.
The City’s drop in session will be held at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club on Wednesday 28 August 2019 from 6pm to 8pm. City officers will be available to answer any questions and hard copies of the survey will be available on the night for the community to provide feedback.
The City’s Listening Post will be set up at 669 Beaufort Street Mount Lawley, in the old Hemisphere Hair Salon (now vacant) next to Gelare on Saturday 31 August 2019 from 10am to 1pm. City officers will again be available to answer any questions, including those regarding the ‘Greening of Beaufort Street’ proposed tree planting and proposed piazza/plaza.
Once the public consultation period has closed, the City will use the feedback to finalise a plan which will be presented to Council for consideration and endorsement.
