Charity Clothing Drop Off Day is Always On Trend

24 April 2019

Thanks to the generosity of the community, the City's latest Charity Clothing Drop-Off Day was another success story. An incredible 23 tonnes of donations were handed over to volunteers by the end of the six-hour event held on Sunday 6 April.

Throughout the day, hundreds of cars packed with everything from clothes, textiles and shoes to books, toys and games made their way to the City’s Administration Centre car park.

The donations supported St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), Good Samaritan Industries, Spine and Limb Foundation, Australian Red Cross and Anglicare.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the event had become a regular fixture for the City as a way of supporting local charities and the environment.

“The response from the community for the drop-off day is always great, but to receive 23 tonnes of donated items is phenomenal really,” Mayor Irwin said. “It really shows that we have an environmentally conscious community keen to give these items a new lease of life and just as importantly; it’s helping the City divert that massive amount of potential waste from landfill.”

Across the series of six collection days starting in 2016, the City has collected a whopping 93 tonnes of donated items that have gone on to help a range of local charities.

For everyone interested in getting a jump start on a bit of downsizing or cleaning out their wardrobe, the City is planning another clothing drop-off day for December 2019.
