Future focused Innovations Lab launched at Mirrabooka Library

The City of Stirling today launched its brand new Innovations Lab, located at the Mirrabooka Library.

The lab, which is now open to the public, provides visitors with a space to experiment with cutting edge technology including 3D printing, virtual reality, robotics, software and other technologies.

City of Stirling Mayor, Mark Irwin said the lab also offered visitors a chance to take part in coordinated workshops, collaborative projects and events run by knowledgeable library staff, industry experts and volunteers.

“The Mirrabooka Library Innovations Lab is the destination for thinking, learning, doing, creating, producing and sharing in Stirling,” he said.

“Not only does it have the ability to connect people from all backgrounds with technology and each other, it provides them with a physical learning space where they can create, experiment and learn, using a variety of digital tools.”

The City’s Service Lead - Libraries and Lifelong Learning Viv Barton said the aim of the Innovations Lab was to foster digital literacy and lifelong learning in our community.

“The world is changing and technology is driving much of that change, so to be prepared we need to have an understanding of current technologies and confidence in our ability to learn about and use them,” she said.

“This is very exciting for the City and its libraries and we hope that the community and local schools will get in touch with us to find out more about our programs and just what the Innovations Lab can offer them into the future.”

The Innovations Lab would not have been possible without the funding and support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, who provided the City with a $50,000 through the State Government’s ‘Local Projects, Local Jobs’ fund.
