Here's to a safe New Year's Eve in Stirling

The City of Stirling would like to remind everyone to take care and stay safe while celebrating New Year’s Eve, tonight.

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the City would be working closely with WA Police to make sure precincts across the City stayed family friendly and safe throughout the afternoon and night.

“We want everyone to have a fantastic New Year’s Eve and enjoy themselves, so it’s really important that we all show each other respect and look after one another.”

Mayor Irwin said that while there were no events or fireworks planned for Scarborough Beach this New Year’s Eve, it was a traditionally busy time of year for the area.

“Thanks to the redevelopment, the area is more family friendly than ever and we’re really looking forward to seeing people enjoying the foreshore, whether they head down for a picnic or dinner at one of the restaurants,” he said.

“Police and City Security staff will be actively patrolling entertainment areas and the beach front and will be taking a zero tolerance approach to public drinking and anti-social behaviour to make sure it remains family friendly.”

The City’s Acting Director Community Development Chris Brereton also urged those heading to the beach during the day to be sun and water smart.

“Spending the day at the beach is a great way to round out the year, but we want everyone to understand how important it is to take care in and around the water,” he said.

“To make sure you stay safe, it’s imperative that you swim between the flags, read the safety signs and follow Beach Inspector and Lifeguard instructions - and of course put on sunscreen, hats and stay in the shade where ever possible.”

Finally, the City of Stirling would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe New Year’s Eve and a healthy and prosperous 2019.  We have a big year planned and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
