Summer is just around the corner

Major progress has been made in the last month across a number of City priorities, and we are continuing to deliver with summer just around the corner.

The City fulfilled a milestone commitment this month as promised in our Reconciliation Action Plan 2021-2023 to hold a 'birdiya to birdiya' or 'boss to boss' meeting between Council, the City’s Executive Team, Wadjak Nyoongar Elder Uncle Ben Taylor, other Elders and RAP Working Group members.

This action is part of our commitment to developing better governance for our organisation when it comes to partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, ensuring we have face to face dialogue at the most senior levels which will surface issues with our progress and keep us on the same page towards reconciliation.

As summer approaches, our summer event season is roaring back after years of pandemic disruptions. The City has confirmed $100,000 in sponsorship for the 2022 Groundswell Festival, returning from 30 September to 1 October 2022.

The next few months will see summer markets in full swing with SummerxSalt Markets starting 22 October, Scarborough Sunset Markets from 12 November, Inglewood Night Markets from mid-October and Stirling Street Food from October in locations all across the City.

And finally, we have also extended the consultation periods for the review of our Homelessness Strategy and our Age Friendly Strategy until 17 September. Please add your voice here to help us continue to improve the way we deliver crucial services.

With so much happening around the City, I encourage you to click on the links below and get involved in our wonderful local community.
