Innovations and announcements

This month has been a busy time for the City, with innovations, new funding announcements and progress toward our strategic objectives.

Earlier this week the City launched Stirling Fast-Track - an innovative online service to modernise, simplify and streamline the assessment and determination of small-scale residential development applications.

The service will cut waiting times for approval by half and covers 65 per cent of the assessments we receive, so a fundamental shift in the way we do business.

We were honoured to be joined by Local Government Minister, Hon John Carey MLA, as well as project partners Master Builders Association and Housing Industry Association to showcase the service with representatives of the development industry.

The week prior I joined Water Minister Hon Dave Kelly MLA and Mount Lawley MLA Simon Millman for the State Government's announcement of funding to help local governments reduce their groundwater use under the Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan.

The City will share in a $4 million fund that will support projects that improve water efficiency and urban cooling in the suburbs through initiatives such as redesigning public open spaces, using water sensitive urban design, planting tree canopy for shading, hydro-zoning and undertaking water audits.

Looking forward to the next few weeks, I strongly encourage you to attend our events and participate in the public consultations that are currently underway. Consultations include our Scarborough Esplanade closure trial (starting this Sunday), the City’s eScooters trial, Yokine Regional Open Space public toilets, the proposed upgrade to the Main Street carpark and the Jackadder Lake Reserve landscape plan.
