Sustainable Stirling 2022-2032

Earlier this month Council passed three of the most significant documents that the City will deal with this year.

Top of everyone's minds is always the annual budget, which in 2022/23 is balanced, debt-free and designed to chart a path for success in the delivery of the City’s vision for the future.

Council made a significant effort to identify ways to keep the increase to rates as low as possible, but an increase of 3.75 per cent was unavoidable given the 7.6 per cent state inflation rate and building cost increases of 14.5 per cent.

The budget does not exist in isolation and there is robust body of work each year to develop a four-year Corporate Business Plan that determines our budget, which is in turn a plan to deliver our long-term vision.

This year, these two bodies of work map out how the City will achieve our new long-term plan, with a new vision, priorities and methods of assessing sustainable development.

Our new Strategic Community Plan, entitled Sustainable Stirling 2022-2032, was built on our most extensive community consultation to date. It outlines an ambitious and achievable new vision to be ‘a sustainable City with a local focus’.

Not only is our strategic planning recognised as sector leading in WA, but government representatives from Canada have contacted our strategy team to understand how we approach integrated planning and reporting.

Therefore, I have every confidence that our new vision, our updated 10-year plan and our ongoing commitment to the highest levels of corporate accountability and transparency will help us create a bright future for everyone living, working and enjoying the City of Stirling – the City of Choice.
