City pays tribute to much loved Councillor

25 February 2019

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Hamersley Ward Councillor, Andrew Guilfoyle.

Andrew was a passionate and dedicated Councillor who was devoted to his community and many causes. He was also a much loved father, husband, friend and colleague, and a long time resident of the City.

Before joining Council, Cr Guilfoyle enjoyed a distinguished career in psychology and was well respected within the industry. With a PhD in community psychology, he once ran his own social research consultancy and was employed by Edith Cowan University as the Departmental Head of Psychology.

Andrew used the skills he gained in those areas and applied them to his role as Councillor, by working to connect people of all ages at a local level. During his six years on Council, he was a strong advocate for his constituents and local clubs, as well as the environmental conservation. He not only represented them day to day, but on a number of Council committees and advisory groups.

The passing of Cr Guilfoyle is a massive loss for the City and community and he will be missed. His work, passion and dedication have not gone unnoticed and will not be forgotten.

Cr Guilfoyle was farewelled by family, friends and colleagues at a service held on Friday, and a wake was held in his honour at the City of Stirling to allow all who knew him to celebrate his life, and recognise his achievements.

We would once again like to extend our deepest sympathies to Andrew’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
