Living Green Program

Applications are now closed, more support for schools will be announced soon. 

Don't miss your chance to make sustainability a priority this year! As part of the Living Green Program, primary and secondary schools within the City are eligible to apply for up to two vouchers to help reduce waste, energy and water use, and create biodiversity and habitat. Vouchers are limited and applications will be assessed in order of receipt. Applications close 31 August 2022.

What support is available?                      

• $500 vouchers from Natural Area Holdings for supply and delivery of South West Australian waterwise plants to increase biodiversity and habitat on school grounds

• $500 vouchers from The Green Life Soil Company for supply and delivery of garden soil, mulch and consumables. These include water saving native and vegetable garden soil, mulch, soil amendments, seedlings, seeds, fertilizers, worms for existing worm farms and kelp solutions
• $730 vouchers from The Worm Shed to supply, deliver and install a recycled fridge worm farm with worms and accessories to assist schools with diverting organic waste away from landfill
• $500 vouchers from Bunnings for gardening tools and equipment, consumables, energy saving devices or waste and recycling. (Vouchers can't be used to purchase environmentally harmful products i.e. chemical sprays, synthetic fertilisers)
• All vouchers are to be used for projects and activities as outlined in the eligibility criteria below.

Home energy toolkits available from City Libraries

Our Home Energy Toolkits are now available for loan from each of our six libraries. The toolkits will help you learn about energy use in your home to reduce your electricity use, and save money on your bills.

To hire a toolkit visit your local library.

Each Toolkit includes:

• PowerMate Lite to measure the electricity use of plug-in appliances, their cost to run and greenhouse gas emissions
• Infra-red Thermometer to measure the temperatures of hard to reach places so you can check heat gains and losses from your home
• Thermometers to assess outside temperatures and how that impacts your comfort inside.

To learn how to use the toolkit, check out this short video. Translated instructions will also available in Mandarin, Farsi, Croatian and Italian. Please ask for a copy when you borrow your toolkit.

Home energy checklist

To help you complete a self-check of your energy use at home and learn about actions to reduce your energy use, a Home Energy Checklist will also be available in English, Mandarin, Farsi, Croatian and Italian from your local Stirling Library.

Sustainable Verge Program (previously ‘Waterwise Verge Program’)

The annual Sustainable Verge program will be opening for registrations in February 2023 for residents transforming their verges over autumn/winter 2023. Each applicant will receive the following support to create a native, waterwise verge garden and 175 places will be available on a first come, first served basis:

• $140 mulch voucher (Soils Aint Soils, Balcatta)
• 20 WA-native waterwise plants
• Sustainable Verge Makeover Guide.

Eligibility

• City of Stirling residential property owner, or tenant with approval from owner
• Have not previously received the Waterwise Verge Program Rebate
• Strata properties can apply (as one verge) with pre-agreement from body corporate

Conditions

• Participants can not apply for free plants in the City’s Plant Giveaway (April/May 2023)
• Participants agree to use the mulch and plants only on their City of Stirling residential verge
• Participants with large verges can apply again in following years to receive additional
• support
• Residents can not register for more than one City of Stirling address
• Participants agree to complete a program survey in June 2023.
